The first room is a serene, minimalist Danish living room, while the second is a warm, rustic Spanish kitchen. These two spaces, though designed with differing cultural aesthetics, highlight the studio’s mastery in creating environments that evoke specific emotions and experiences. The juxtaposition of these projects exemplifies how architecture can shape the ambiance of a space, balancing simplicity with warmth, and modernity with tradition.
The Danish living room is a masterpiece of minimalistic design, embodying a sense of quiet elegance and luminous simplicity. White walls form a crisp canvas upon which design wooden pieces, artfully hung, bring subtle texture and visual interest. Light streams into the room from a zenith direction through an open coffered ceiling, bathing the space in a soft, diffused glow that enhances its serene atmosphere.
Maple wood steps, which seamlessly transform into a long bench in the central part of the room, lead to a wide door-window. This door-window overlooks a private patio lush with vegetation, further amplifying the room’s tranquil ambiance. The rustic brick floor adds a layer of warmth and tactile contrast, transitioning from the sleek resin flooring found in the rest of the apartment. This shift in materials introduces a cozy, earthy feel to the space.
Touches of colorful design pieces, many of which are custom-made by atelier anna arpa specifically for this project, infuse the room with a playful twist, subtly breaking the minimalistic monotony without overwhelming the overall aesthetic.
In contrast, the Spanish kitchen exudes warmth and rustic charm, nestled behind a mezzanine slab and overlooking a double-height space. For privacy, this space can be divided by a movable blue curtain, offering both openness and seclusion as desired. The ceiling, mezzanine pillar, and kitchen panels are crafted from honey-colored pine wood, enveloping the room in a golden warmth that contrasts beautifully with the cooler, modern elements.
The central kitchen island, finished with amaranth glazed tiles, adds a vibrant focal point to the room, topped by a distinctive hanging hood. The lighting elements, characterized by unconventional geometries and colored metal tones, spice up the geometric layout, adding a layer of visual intrigue.
The terrazzo floor, featuring a warm white background with a grid of dark olive squares, anchors the room’s design, marrying traditional materials with a contemporary edge. This interplay of materials and forms creates a space that is both inviting and visually stimulating, a perfect counterpart to the quiet minimalism of the Danish living room.
These two projects by atelier anna arpa, though rooted in different cultural contexts, exemplify how architecture can evoke distinct emotions and atmospheres through careful consideration of materials, light, and space.
